JOB PURPOSE
Lead and grow a high-performing backend engineering team delivering backend microservices and batch systems for critical retail banking channels of HDFC Bank, ensuring reliability, security, performance and regulatory compliance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (JR):
· Own end-to-end delivery of backend services for key retail banking journeys, from requirements through design, development, testing and production support.
· Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance on microservices design, integration patterns, data modeling and non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, resilience, security).
· Build, coach and mentor backend engineering teams (Golang and Java), driving culture of code quality, ownership, learning and collaboration.
· Establish/enforce engineering standards, best practices and review processes across both technology stacks.
· Partner with product managers, business stakeholders, architects, QA and DevOps to plan roadmaps, prioritize backlog and deliver outcomes on time.
· Drive continuous improvement in CI/CD, observability, incident management and root-cause analysis for backend services.
· Monitor/manage team capacity, hiring needs and skill development plans aligned to technology/business priorities
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
· Total experience: 15–20 years in backend engineering, recent Golang microservices focus.
· Qualification: B Tech/BE in Computer Science, Electronics or related discipline.
· Key Skills:
o Strong hands-on background in either Java (Java 11+/21 with Spring Boot) OR Golang as primary technology, with willingness/aptitude to learn the other stack to support team delivery.
o Proven experience designing/delivering microservices architectures (REST/gRPC), resilience patterns, observability, API gateway integration.
o SQL/NoSQL expertise, data modeling, performance tuning from backend services.
o CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker (Kubernetes preferred), banking security (OWASP, auth/authz).
o Demonstrated team leadership, performance management, hiring, psychological safety culture.
o Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban), stakeholder management, planning excellence
