Role Title: Senior Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

Own the architecture, build, and reliable operation of a modern platform that spans APIs/microservices and Salesforce applications for customer/loyalty capabilities. Lead a cross functional, distributed team and partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and Business stakeholders to turn strategy into secure, scalable, observable, and cost-efficient solutions. Drive an outcome based roadmap, strong engineering practices, and continuous improvement across delivery, quality, and reliability.

Qualifications Skills & Experience:

Must have:

  • 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading platform or application engineering teams; proven delivery across enterprise scale integrations and high throughput systems.
  • Deep platform stack expertise: Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, NoSQL/SQL, Docker/Kubernetes, microservices, service mesh (Istio), API gateways (Akana/Apigee/AWS API GW), GraphQL/REST, security (OAuth2/OIDC, SAML), and networking fundamentals (VPC, LTM/GTM, DNS).
  • Salesforce engineering depth: Apex, LWC, Visualforce, SOQL, packaging, performance tuning, security/governor limits, and DevOps with Salesforce DX and tools like Copado/Gearset.
  • Strong DevOps/SRE practices: CI/CD, automated testing, release management, observability (logs/metrics/tracing), capacity/performance engineering, incident & problem management.
  • Demonstrated success leading managed services/partners, with clear SLAs, KPIs, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Mastery of Agile/Scrum and backlog management (e.g., Jira/Confluence/Git). Excellent communicationable to translate complex technical topics for senior business partners and enterprise architects.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with content management systems, SEO aware delivery, or omnichannel integrations.
  • Prior delivery in Loyalty/CRM domains and event driven architectures for member lifecycle and partner ecosystems.
  • Exposure to GraphQL federation, service discovery, and config management at scale.
  • Automation testing frameworks, performance tooling, and release train orchestration.
  • Experience with IT outsourcing and a product based operating model.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Salesforce: Platform Developer I/II; Application or System Architect preferred.
  • Cloud: AWS or Azure Architect/Developer certifications preferred.
  • ITIL/Lean/Six Sigma (nice to have) for service and process maturity.

Key Responsibilities:

60% Technical Leadership & Delivery:

  • End to end Architecture & StandardsDefine and govern reference architectures for API platforms, microservices, and Salesforce (Apex/LWC), including evening (Kafka), data models (SQL/NoSQL), and integration patterns (REST/SOAP, async, GraphQL). Establish coding standards, design review gates, and security-by-design practices.
  • Platform Engineering & OperationsBuild/operate a production grade platform on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, service mesh, secrets management, and infrastructure as code. Set and meet SLOs/SLAs, DORA targets, and performance budgets (p95/p99 latency, throughput). Lead incident response, DR/BCP, and root cause/Problem Management.
  • API Gateway & ConnectivityOwn API gateway strategy and operations (e.g., Akana), including auth (OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS), rate limiting, throttling, developer portal, and automated provisioning. Ensure observability (logging, metrics, tracing) with tools like ELK/Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry.
  • Salesforce Engineering ExcellenceGuide custom development (Apex, LWC, Visualforce, SOQL) and integrations with platform services and third parties. Enforce best practices around governor limits, security model, packaging, test coverage, and release automation (Salesforce DX, Copado/Gearset).
  • DevOps, CI/CD & QualityImplement trunk-based development, automated testing (unit, contract, performance), and progressive delivery pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions/Jenkins) across both platform and Salesforce. Drive zero touch deployments, blue/green/canary, and environment consistency.
  • Governance & RiskEnsure compliance with IT governance, data privacy, and InfoSec standards. Maintain a healthy balance of business velocity vs. operational risk, with early risk surfacing and mitigation plans.
  • Vendor/Service Provider ManagementLead managed services and partner teams: SLAs, SOWs, and outcome-based metrics; verify delivery and continuous improvement align with the spirit and letter of agreements.

20% Product Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Outcome Driven Roadmap OwnershipTranslate business strategy (e.g., loyalty growth, member experience, partner integrations) into measurable OKRs, epics, and prioritized backlogs across platform and Salesforce products.
  • Discovery & RequirementsFacilitate discovery with stakeholders; capture functional/nonfunctional requirements; quantify technical complexity and tradeoffs to set realistic scope and sequencing.
  • Experience & AdoptionChampion end user and developer experience. Shape developer portal content, sandbox strategy, and reusable patterns/APIs to accelerate adoption and reduce time to first value.
  • Delivery OrchestrationRun Agile at scale (sprint planning, reviews, demos, retros). Coordinate cross team dependencies, integration testing, and release calendars across channels and backend systems.
  • Value RealizationBuild business cases; define success metrics (adoption, NPS/CSAT, cost to serve, revenue lift) and report progress to executive stakeholders with crisp, data backed storytelling.
