At Deloitte, you’ll collaborate with industry experts, solve complex engineering challenges, and help design testing ecosystems that power some of the world’s most influential organizations.
We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer (6+ years) with solid exposure to reactive system development and cloud‑native architectures. You will be responsible for designing and implementing highly scalable, non-blocking backend services built with Spring WebFlux, deployed on Kubernetes, and integrated with reactive databases using R2DBC.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in modern, distributed system environments and enjoy driving technical excellence in backend engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and develop reactive backend services using Java and Spring WebFlux
- Build and optimize high‑performance, event‑driven, non-blocking APIs
- Own and maintain Kubernetes deployments using Helm charts, ensuring reliable and scalable production environments
- Use Minikube for local development, troubleshooting, and validating Kubernetes configurations
- Implement reactive database operations using R2DBC with native SQL (SQL-first approach)
- Collaborate closely with DevOps and Cloud teams to deploy, monitor, and operate services on AWS and/or Azure
- Ensure backend services meet the highest standards of performance, scalability, reliability, and security
- Participate in and contribute to code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design decisions
- Mentor junior developers and promote best practices within the team (expectation for 6+ year role)
Required Technical Skills
Java & Reactive Programming
- Strong backend development skills with Java (8+)
- Deep hands-on experience with Spring WebFlux
- Clear understanding of Mono, Flux, and non-blocking I/O patterns
Kubernetes & Helm
- Practical experience working with Kubernetes clusters
- Expertise in Helm chart creation, customization, and maintenance
Minikube
- Experience using Minikube for local Kubernetes-based development workflows
Database (R2DBC + SQL)
- Hands-on experience with R2DBC and writing native SQL queries
- Strong preference for SQL-first, non-JPA/Hibernate development
Cloud Platforms
- Working knowledge of AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
- Experience operating microservices in cloud-hosted Kubernetes (EKS/AKS)
Additional Skills (Nice-to-Have)
PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL features is a plus
- Developers with backgrounds in SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL are welcome
Liquibase
- Experience with database schema versioning and migrations
OAuth2 Security
- Knowledge of implementing authentication and authorization using OAuth2
