We now need a hands-on technical lead to turn mock-ups into a secure, scalable, AI-powered MERN platform—and seed an engineering culture from Day 0.
You’ll own architecture, DevOps, and team growth while shipping the features that move the needle for our early customers.
What You’ll Do
1. Design & build the core architecture
- Craft a multi-tenant back end on Node + Express
- Model MongoDB schemas for design assets, RFQs, POs, and workflow events
- Deliver clean, versioned REST/GraphQL APIs for the React front end and third-party integrations
2. Embed intelligent, AI-driven features
- Integrate LLM services for auto-generated tech packs, smart RFQ comparisons, and conversational vendor chat
- Evaluate tools such as OpenAI, LangChain, Pinecone, or fine-tuned in-house models
3. Lead DevOps & cloud deployment
- Select and configure the cloud stack (AWS / GCP / Azure)
- Stand up IaC, CI/CD pipelines, staging, and blue-green deployments
- Source and manage DevOps contractors as load scales
4. Set engineering standards & strategy
- Establish code-quality, observability, security, and data-privacy baselines (SOC 2 journey)
- Maintain living architecture docs and run design reviews
5. Recruit, mentor, and scale the team
- Partner with founders on hiring plans
- Conduct technical interviews, onboard early engineers, and foster a high-ownership culture
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- MERN expertise: 5+ years building production Node/Express APIs & MongoDB models; comfortable dipping into React when needed
- Demonstrable AI/LLM integration (OpenAI, embeddings, vector DBs, etc.)
- Cloud & DevOps fluency: Docker, Terraform/Pulumi, GitHub Actions (or equivalent)
- Security mindset: OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC, rate-limiting, secure SDLC familiarity
- Startup DNA: shipped 0→1 products, thrive on ambiguity, and communicate crisply with non-technical stakeholders
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in supply-chain, PLM, or fashion-tech
- Event-driven or micro-services architecture (Kafka, NATS, etc.)
- Infra-cost optimisation and performance tuning
- Leadership of distributed engineering teams
