Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive MS SQL Database Administrator and SQL Developer to support our growing logistics technology infrastructure. This dual-role position is critical in ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our databases and business-critical applications.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing and optimizing large volumes of operational data including trip logs, route data, vehicle telemetry, fuel transactions, contractor payments, invoicing, and regulatory reports. A deep understanding of logistics workflows and data dependencies is essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Administration (MS SQL Server)

  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances (including high availability, disaster recovery, backups, and clustering).
  • Monitor database performance, tune queries, and optimize indexes to support real-time logistics applications.
  • Manage user roles, permissions, and security policies to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure database uptime and reliability across operational environments (production, staging, and development).
  • Develop and manage backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and data archival policies.
  • Schedule and manage SQL Server Agent jobs, replication, and linked servers.
  • 2. SQL Development

  • Write complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, views, and functions to support application logic and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with software developers to create and optimize data-driven backend components for route planning, freight invoicing, vehicle scheduling, driver tracking, etc.
  • Design and maintain ETL processes to integrate data from GPS devices, fuel cards, ERP systems, and third-party logistics platforms.
  • Generate dynamic operational and financial reports for fleet performance, vehicle utilization, trip summaries, and KPI dashboards.
  • 3. Logistics-Specific Data Management

  • Develop and maintain normalized and de-normalized data models tailored for logistics operations.
  • Implement logic for trip-based cost allocation, multi-party billing, and real-time location-based data aggregation.
  • Manage geospatial data for route analytics, fuel usage patterns, and time/distance-based optimization models.
  • Assist in implementing audit trails, exception logging, and regulatory reporting (., vehicle compliance, emissions tracking).
  • 4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with operations, transport planning, and finance teams to translate business requirements into technical database solutions.
  • Support data requirements for BI tools, dashboards, and mobile/web applications.
  • Participate in code reviews, data architecture discussions, and system integration planning.
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 6–8 years in MS SQL DBA and SQL development roles, ideally within the logistics, transportation, or supply chain domains.
  • Technical Skills

    Required:

  • Expertise in MS SQL Server (2016 or later) including SSMS, Profiler, SQL Agent, and Management Studio tools.
  • Proficient in T-SQL for writing efficient stored procedures, functions, triggers, and complex queries.
  • Experience with query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and working with large datasets across multiple systems.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, normalization/denormalization, and referential integrity.
  • Experience with database security, backups, restore, recovery models, and transaction log handling.
  • Preferred:

  • Exposure to cloud-based SQL solutions.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SSRS, or other reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of geospatial SQL, JSON handling, and logistics domain data models.
  • Experience in integrating with GPS, IoT, fuel card APIs, or telematics systems.
