About the role
We are working with a leading global organization based in Mumbai, India, which is looking for a Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll operations. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across payroll and statutory functions, while managing a high-performing team.
Summary of the role and key responsibilities
- Lead the payroll team to deliver timely, accurate, and compliant payroll for a large and diverse workforce, including blue-collar employees.
- Oversee payroll transactions: new hires, exits, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, flexi-benefits, and full & final settlements.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (PF, ESI, PT, LWF, Minimum Wages, Income Tax, etc.) and drive process improvements.
- Manage income tax compliance, including TDS, Form 16, audits, and statutory reporting.
- Drive payroll system enhancements and provide actionable insights from payroll data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on escalations, governance, and continuous improvement.
Key skills required
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field; Payroll/Income Tax certification is a plus.
- 8–10+ years in payroll, statutory compliance, and income tax in multi-location organizations.
- Expertise in payroll processing, payroll taxation, and statutory compliance.
- Proven experience managing large, diverse teams, including blue-collar populations.
- Proficiency in enterprise payroll systems (SAP, Workday, Oracle, Ramco) and MS Office.
- Understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, and payroll journal entries.
