Candidate Persona: Factory Excellence Leader

  1. Professional Background

Education:

  • B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical / Electrical / Production / Industrial Engineering) – mandatory
  • Postgraduate qualification (Operations / Manufacturing / Quality) – desirable
  • Strong academic pedigree preferred (Tier 1 / reputed institutions)

Experience:

  • 15+ years total experience, with 10+ years in manufacturing plants
  • Hands-on exposure across:
    • Shop-floor operations
    • Production planning & execution
    • Quality, TPM, maintenance, safety
    • Cost, productivity, and yield improvement
  • Experience in large, process-driven manufacturing organizations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence initiatives end-to-end, not just design frameworks

Industry Exposure:

  • Electricals / Engineering / Auto / FMCG / Process Manufacturing preferred
  • Exposure to multi-line / multi-SKU / high-volume manufacturing environments
  1. Role Purpose

The role will be part of the Polycab Excellence Office, with responsibility to:

  • Drive operating excellence on the shop floor
  • Translate excellence frameworks into daily execution
  • Work closely with Plant Heads, Production, Quality, Maintenance, SCM, and Safety teams
  • Lead structured improvement programs across productivity, cost, quality, safety, and delivery

This is a hands-on operating role, not a consulting or audit-only excellence role.

  1. Key Competencies

Operational Excellence & Execution

  • Strong grounding in Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, OEE improvement
  • Ability to run problem-solving on the floor (root cause, Gemba, data-led action)
  • Proven record of sustainable improvements, not one-time wins

Plant Operations Understanding

  • Deep understanding of:
    • Manufacturing KPIs (OEE, yield, downtime, cycle time)
    • Capacity planning & line balancing
    • Quality systems & defect reduction
    • Safety and compliance culture
  • Comfortable influencing operators, engineers, supervisors, and plant leadership

Change & People Leadership

  • Ability to drive behavioral change on shop floor
  • Coaches teams instead of imposing frameworks
  • Builds ownership culture among line managers and supervisors

Data & Systems Orientation

  • Uses data rigorously for decision-making
  • Comfortable with MES / SAP / dashboards / plant digitization initiatives

Stakeholder Management

  • Works seamlessly with:
    • Plant leadership

    • Central manufacturing & supply chain
