Traveling Project Manager – Data Center Construction
Location: USA (with nationwide project-site travel) Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Position Summary
A leading engineering and project delivery organization is seeking an experienced Sr. Project Manager to oversee small to large-scale projects from initiation through completion. This role is responsible for controlling project budgets, schedules, resources, and quality while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors. The ideal candidate excels at guiding clients through decision-making, ensuring project solutions align with business and technical requirements, and delivering high-quality results in mission-critical environments.
This position requires proactive leadership, strong organizational capability, and the ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage projects end-to-end (financial, schedule, quality, safety) with minimal oversight
Prepare and approve comprehensive Project Execution Plans (PEP)
Secure project resources and supervise project staff as needed
Build and manage complex Level 3 schedules, including critical path, float, and health indicators
Develop earned value analysis (EVA) and estimates-at-completion for internal tracking
Present project status updates to clients and internal business leadership
Perform risk analysis and mitigation planning
Coordinate internal team schedules, procurement activities, and subcontractor execution
Administer project budgets, variances, change orders, and invoicing
Prepare complete and accurate change orders independently
Develop and maintain project quality plans
Identify new business opportunities within existing and prospective customer accounts
Prepare small-to-medium proposals and support large/complex proposal efforts
Participate in client sales meetings as a technical and project delivery representative
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with client project teams, channel partners, contractors, and engineering firms
Communicate clearly and effectively with all stakeholders
Qualifications & Requirements
Proficiency in MS Project and/or Primavera, plus MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong understanding of automation-related project scopes, able to independently assess team progress
Experience with complex automation or industrial construction projects
Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrates innovation, craftsmanship, and problem-solving in high-pressure environments
Forward-thinking, proactive, and solution-oriented
Ability to maintain a positive and steady presence under stress
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
4+ years of experience as a Project Manager and/or Project Engineer
Experience with data center and/or semiconductor construction strongly preferred
PMP certification is a plus
Work Conditions
Travel Requirements
Must be willing to relocate to project sites within the for 12–18 month durations
Primary site locations include the Rocky Mountain region and Texas
Valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain) required
Relocation support provided for employee and family
Lodging, food, mileage, and periodic airfare home reimbursed during on-site assignments
Physical Demands
Ability to stand/walk on active job sites for 8–12 hours
Frequent stair and ladder climbing; ability to work at heights
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally
Clear verbal communication in industrial environments
Ability to operate vehicles and basic site equipment with training
Frequent bending, crouching, and maneuvering around equipment during commissioning/startup
Manual dexterity for tools, instruments, and computer equipment
PPE required, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats
Working Environment
Office, construction site, and data center environments
Exposure to noise, temperature changes, industrial chemicals, and active equipment
Electrical/instrumentation troubleshooting, voltage testing, and device checkout
Frequent use of computers and mobile devices
