What Youll Be Doing (position summary):
Risk Management is led by the SEVP and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) andis accountableonmatters relating to the independent oversight of the management of risks inherent to the activities of CIBC, itssubsidiariesand affiliates. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring that effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, regulatory compliance, market, credit, strategic, investment and liquidity risk, collectively CIBC Risk, incurred by CIBCs retail and wholesale businesses, infrastructure and corporate governance groups.
Reporting to theSenior Director,Operational Risk ManagementforEurope/ APAC,the Director, Operational Risk Management for CIBC Indiais accountable foridentifying,assessing,monitoring, communicating, and mitigatingoperationalrisksrelevant toCIBCIndia.Youwill work closely withregional and globalbusiness leaders to ensure that all aspects of the operational risk management and control framework requirements are met. You will provide operational risk and control framework-related advice and effective challenge to business lines, proactivelymonitoringemerging risks and external events, overseeing control and deficiency management, and staying current on regulatory changes and industry bestpractices.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):
- Fulfilling the role of CIBCs second line of defense in the management of operational risk by challenging thebusiness lines inputs to and outputs from CIBCs risk management, risk measurement and reportingsystems and programs. The role coversallOperational Risk inIndia as it relates to GCC operations.This is a key role in the three lines ofdefensemodel,and it requires a deep understanding of the business as well as the ability to challenge senioremployees of the Bank in a constructivemanner.
- Providing ongoing oversight andeffectivechallenge of CIBCs operational risk exposurethrough the use ofvarious risk identification and assessment tools,such as Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRAs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Incident Reporting, External Event Reviews, Scenario Analysisand Control / Deficiency Management.In addition toapplying the tools, the role is also expected to provide input into refining and improving the tools as part of acontinuous improvement process.
- Providing seniormanagement with aregular reportsdetailing theoutcomes / findings of these assessmentsand overall operational risk profile for CIBC India
- Collaborating withregionaland corresponding globalbusiness units to ensure thatoperationalrisk and control policies, procedures and standards are relevant, up to date, and are communicated withinthe region,and to provideappropriate educationand training, including facilitating / challengingthe regional businessassessments of operational risk and controls.
- Providingoperational risk advice to business lines to enhance the management of operational risk, includingadvising on risk analysis and mitigation strategies toidentifyand mitigate product,business,and enterpriserisk exposures as efficiently and effectively as possible and developing executive communications. pertainingto operational risk issues. This will include performing regular deep diveriskreviewson specific topics / areas within the region.
- Promote a strong Operational Risk Culture,which includes working with senior managementto promote acceptance and implementation of operational risk and control programs.
- Understanding regionaland / or globalrisk appetite statements from an operational risk perspectiveandensuring that the region stayswithin risk appetiteor that breaches are promptly investigated / escalated.
- Staying current in relevant regional regulatory changes and industry best practices in operational risk management to ensureregionaloperational risk managementactivitiesremaincompliant,effective,efficient,and aligned topeer financialinstitutions.
- Monitor andencouragetimelyremediation ofregional business unitcontroldeficienciesand risk items, KRI / RASbreaches,and other identified operational risk issues.
- Co-ordinate submission of risk related material for internal and external audit and regulatory examinations and support issue remediationrequiredas a potential outcome.
- Work with Finance, the Region Head and global Risk Management in co-ordination ofRisk Managementbudgets for the Risk ManagementIndiaoffice.
- Maintain effective governance aroundInter-Company Agreements (ICAs) and relatedService Level Agreements (SLAs)in accordance withinternal policy andregulatoryrequirement.

Must Have Skills:
- Post-secondary degreein business / finance / accounting or related field.
- 12+ yearsrelevant experience.
- Ability to co-ordinate multiple deliverables / projects .
- Strong relationship management skills and ability toinfluence andcollaborate effectively withpeople across businessunits within the region and globally.
- Broad knowledgeand experience with operationalrisk topicsincluding regulatory compliance, privacy, third party, information security / cyber, dataand transaction processing risks.
- Familiarity withregional and globalregulatory requirementsrelevant to operational risk management..
- The ability to think laterally and introduce new controls and risk management techniques if enhancements to the regional risk governance framework arerequired.
