What Youll Be Doing (Position Summary):

The Senior Manager, ApplicationDevelopmentis accountable for managing multiple development projects, development groups, and application support functions for a major line of business. The role oversees the development, testing, and implementation of organization-wide systems, directing, motivating, and developing staff to maximize their individual contribution and function effectively as a team. This role ensures resource requirements and allocations are managed, quality ismonitoredand improved, and best practice development techniques areleveraged. The Senior Manager works closely with business partners to support the development, testing, and implementation of application programs that drive business improvement.

How Youll Succeed (Responsibilities):

Delivery Focused:

  • Work closely with internal partners todetermine, negotiate, and manage projects to agreed timelines.
  • Monitor finances,identifyopportunities for improvement, and recommendappropriate solutions.
  • Implement projects ina timelyfashion that are of high quality, low cost, and on budget.

Technical Expertise:

  • Collaborate directly with development, design, and production support teams to build strong, reliable data solutions using best data practices.
  • Lead hands-on development effortsleveragingAzure Data Cloud Services and Big Data technologies.

People Leadership:

  • Lead and coach a high-performing team to ensure multiple concurrent projects andobjectivesare met.
  • Direct, motivate, and develop staff to maximize contributions and professional growth.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate to solve complex problems.

Relationship Management:

  • Work closely with project teams, executives, stakeholders, and business partners to develop and implement application programs.
  • Advise application owners on technology implementation possibilities and requirements.

Solution Creation Process:

  • Lead,facilitate, and coordinate solution design, ensuring alignment across multiple workstreams.

Finance Management:

  • Manage resource finances to ensure all projects are on track for timelines and budget.
  • Contribute to operational, short-term, and strategic planning in support of the Big Data Platform & Service team.

People Management:

  • Setappropriate contextwhen assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the business units priorities and CIBCs overall goals.
  • Build team and individual capabilities byprovidingdevelopment opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
  • Manage performance by providing fair andaccurateformal and informal feedback,identifyingand removing. obstacles to performance, and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBCs mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
  • Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.

Experience: 10+ years of experience

Who You Are (Skills / Qualifications):

Must Have Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in technical architecture, solutions design, and data engineering in a big data environment.
  • 5+ years experience forming, building, and managing effective teams in a matrix fulltime / onshore / offshore model.
  • Extensive experience managing complex IT projects, including task and decision management.
  • Expertisein designing and building scalable frameworks; knowledge of Azure Data Cloud Services (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Blob, SQL Server. Function Apps, Azure Key Vaults, Azure Networking, Event Hub, Cosmos DB, Azure Synapse, Databricks).
  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Oozie, HiveQL, Hive UDFs, Sqoop, Spark, Impala).
  • Developmentexpertisewith Java, Scala, Python, SQL, C#.
  • Experience with container-based systems (OpenShift / Kubernetes / Docker).
  • Knowledge ofGithub, Azure Monitor, Azure Purview, Unity Catalogue.
  • Strong understanding of Data Mesh principles, distributed data systems, andmicroservicesarchitecture (asset).
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills; adept at problem-solving and developing efficient solutions.
