Joining Date: March/April 2026
About the Role
We’re building the optical highway to the cosmos
Join us as an Electrical Engineer to design high-speed electronics, precision power systems, laser driver circuits, and control electronics for multi-Gbps optical links. You’ll work across high-speed digital systems, precision control loops, and ruggedized electronics for both ground stations and satellite payloads.
Responsibilities
- Design laser driver circuits (pulsed/CW), photodetector amplifiers, TIA systems, and precision power electronics (DC-DC converters, ultra-low-noise LDOs, switching regulators)
- Design motor driver circuits and closed-loop servo control systems for sub-arcsecond beam steering and optical alignment
- Design high-speed PCBs (8-12+ layers) with signal integrity analysis, controlled impedance routing, and thermal management
- Develop multi-loop control systems (PID, state-space, Kalman filtering) for optical alignment and atmospheric compensation
- Interface optical components with motor controllers, FPGA systems, and power distribution networks
- Debug and test using oscilloscopes (>10 GHz), spectrum analyzers, VNAs, and eye diagram analysis
- Lead integration with optical/mechanical subsystems and support field testing
Requirements
- B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or ECE
- 2-5+ years of hands-on experience with power electronics and control systems
- Power electronics: buck/boost converters, H-bridges, laser drivers, precision current sources
- Circuit simulation: LTspice, PSpice, Multisim
- Motor control: FOC, BLDC, stepper drivers with high-resolution encoders (>20-bit)
- Control systems: Multi-loop PID, state-space controllers, Kalman filtering, stability analysis
- PCB design: Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCad – multi-layer boards with signal/power integrity, EMI/EMC
- High-speed interfaces: SerDes (>10 Gbps), LVDS, CML, SPI, I2C, RS-422/485, CAN
- Test equipment: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators
- Programming: Python, C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink
- Hands-on soldering, debugging, and board bring-up skills
- Ability to own an electronics subsystem end-to-end: design, build, test, deploy
Nice-to-Have
- FPGA development (Xilinx/Intel) and VHDL/Verilog
- Space-qualified or defense-grade electronics (MIL-STD-810, DO-160)
- Precision positioning systems: piezo controllers, sub-nanometer resolution
- Published research or patents in relevant fields
What We Offer
- Opportunity to build electronics for next-generation space optical communication from scratch
- World-class lab facilities and test equipment
- Significant equity ownership with early-stage upside potential
- Collaborative IISc-affiliated research environment
- Direct impact on quantum communication technology
