These job descriptions are tailored for the departments of Forensic Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBG), and General Medicine, in compliance with the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025 notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Associate Professor

Departments: Forensic Medicine / Obstetrics & Gynecology / General Medicine

Qualifications and Eligibility:

  • MD/MS/DNB or equivalent recognized postgraduate medical qualification in the concerned specialty.
  • Alternative pathways:
  • Non-teaching consultants/specialists/medical officers with recognized PG degree and cumulative 10 years experience post-PG in a government hospital (minimum 220 beds).
  • Standard pathway: Typically 4 years as Assistant Professor in an NMC-recognized medical college.
  • Required: At least 2 research publications in indexed journals (as first/corresponding or among first three authors) during Assistant Professor tenure.
  • Valid registration with NMC/State Medical Council.

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years teaching/clinical experience as Assistant Professor or equivalent (including alternative pathways).

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver advanced UG/PG teaching, seminars, case discussions, and curriculum development.
  • Supervise clinical/post-mortem services, guide junior faculty/residents, and manage unit activities.
  • Mentor PG theses, conduct research, and ensure publications.
  • Contribute to hospital administration, quality initiatives, and accreditation.
  • Represent department in academic forums.

Professor

  • Required: Minimum 4 research publications in indexed journals overall, with at least 2 during Associate Professor tenure (as first/corresponding or among first three authors).
  • Valid registration with NMC/State Medical Council.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience as Associate Professor or equivalent (including alternative pathways). Substantial leadership experience required.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead departmental/unit activities, develop advanced teaching programs, and oversee PG training.
  • Provide expert clinical/medico-legal care and manage complex cases.
  • Drive research, secure grants, guide theses, and ensure high publication output.
  • Contribute to institutional policy, accreditation, and administrative roles (eligible for HOD with additional criteria).
  • Organize conferences and enhance institutional reputation.
