Role Overview
We are building a next generation cross-border payments platform focused on speed, reliability,
compliance, and cost efficiency. Our vision is to build using an AI-first approach. In this role,
you’ll embrace an AI-first development approach, using artificial intelligence tools to build, debug,
and QA features more efficiently and effectively. You’ll work across our entire technology stack,
building experiments and features while leveraging AI to enhance every aspect of your development workflow. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ship code that serves to support our customers.
As Engineering Team Lead, you will own the end-to-end technology strategy and execution—
building scalable, secure, and highly available payment systems from the ground up. You will
architect and lead a lean team that uses AI to generate code and build a platform that will
enable transaction processing, drive smarter routing, dynamic pricing, fraud prevention,
compliance automation, operational efficiency, and developer velocity. You and your team will
work closely with product, compliance, and business teams to ship mission-critical financial
infrastructure.
Responsibilities
● Define and execute the overall engineering architecture for a global payments platform (APIs, core transaction processing, ledgering, reconciliation, settlement).
● Build and scale backend systems for:
○ Payment orchestration
○ FX pricing and routing
○ Partner integrations (banks, PSPs, wallets, networks)
○ Compliance workflows (KYC, AML, sanctions screening)
● Own reliability, uptime, security, and performance of payment flows (SLAs, monitoring, incident response).
● Design for scale, multi-region deployments, and regulatory segmentation.
● Lead hiring, mentoring, and performance management of a lean engineering team around AI led development practices. Drive “AI for engineers” internally:
○ AI-assisted coding
○ AI-driven test generation
○ Automated incident analysis
● Establish engineering processes: CI/CD, code quality, security reviews, on-call practices.
● Work closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Partnerships to align AI capabilities with business outcomes.
● Partner with Compliance & Risk teams to embed regulatory controls into system design.
● Manage cloud infrastructure and vendor relationships.
Requirements
● 15+ years of software engineering experience, with 5–7+ years in a senior leadership role.
● Experience building large-scale distributed systems (payments, fintech, marketplaces, or high-volume transaction platforms preferred).
● Strong backend engineering background (e.g., Java, Go, Python, Node.js).
● Hands-on experience with:
○ Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
○ Microservices, event-driven architectures
○ Databases (SQL + NoSQL)
○ Message queues / streaming (Kafka, Pub/Sub, etc.)
● Strong understanding of:
○ Payments flows, settlement, reconciliation
○ API-based integrations with financial partners
○ Security best practices (PCI DSS, encryption, secrets management)
● Experience working with regulated environments is a big plus.
● Hands-on experience with:
○ ML/AI systems in production (model serving, monitoring, retraining pipelines)
○ Data infrastructure (streaming pipelines, warehouses, feature stores)
○ Cloud-native architectures
● Experience working with:
○ Real-time decisioning systems
○ Fraud/risk models, recommendation systems, or optimization engines (nice to have)
● Strong product intuition: ability to connect models to business outcomes (cost, success rate, fraud loss, conversion).
