Role Overview
The Head of BESS Manufacturing will lead the end-to-end setup, commissioning, and operations of a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System assembly facility. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, production efficiency, quality compliance, supply chain coordination, and long-term manufacturing strategy.
The candidate will build the plant from ground up, scale production to gigawatt levels, and ensure global standards in safety, quality, and cost competitiveness.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree : Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Industrial Engineering
MBA preferred for strategic role.
Experience Required: 12-20 years in:
- Battery manufacturing
- EV battery pack assembly
- Energy storage systems
- High-voltage electronics manufacturing
- Experience in gigafactory or large-scale automation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Lithium-ion battery architecture
- BMS integration
- Thermal management systems
- Automated assembly lines
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Has scaled manufacturing from pilot to large capacity.
- Understands both engineering and commercial aspects.
- Experience working with global suppliers (China/Korea/Europe).
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Able to manage 500+ crore industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Setup & Commissioning
- Lead installation and commissioning of automated BESS assembly lines.
- Coordinate with machinery suppliers and EPC contractors.
- Finalize production layout and capacity ramp-up plan.
- Establish SOPs and production workflows.
Manufacturing Operations
- Manage annual production targets (multi-GWh scale).
- Ensure optimal OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency).
- Drive cost optimization and yield improvement.
- Oversee module, pack, and containerized BESS assembly.
Quality & Compliance
- Implement global battery safety standards (IEC, UL, BIS, UN38.3).
- Develop in-line testing, grading, and traceability systems.
- Ensure
- Lead certification processes for domestic & export markets.
Supply Chain & Vendor Management
- Manage lithium-ion cell procurement coordination.
- Develop strategic supplier partnerships.
- Control inventory risk (high-value raw materials).
- Optimize logistics and working capital.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure high-voltage manufacturing safety.
- Implement fire suppression and battery handling protocols.
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
Technology & Innovation
- Work closely with R&D and BMS teams.
- Improve energy density and lifecycle performance.
- Track global battery chemistry trends (LFP, NMC, Sodium-ion).
- Plan backward integration strategies (future cell manufacturing).
Team Leadership
- Build and lead cross-functional manufacturing team.
- Hire production engineers, quality heads, plant managers.
- Develop training systems for high-voltage assembly operations.
- Foster performance-driven manufacturing culture.
KPIs (Performance Metrics) and Key Deliverables :
- Annual GWh output achievement
- Manufacturing cost per kWh
- Defect rate / warranty claims
- OEE percentage
- Production ramp-up timeline
