Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader who combines deep expertise in device
engineering with strong capabilities in merchant payments and platform infrastructure. This role
will drive end-to-end engineering for device-led payment solutions as well as merchant
ecosystem integrations, ensuring reliability, scalability, and compliance with regulatory and
security standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Device Engineering & Platform Ownership
Own end-to-end engineering for POS terminals, Soundbox devices, QR-enabled hardware, and
IoT-based merchant solutions.
• Drive architecture and development of connected device ecosystems, ensuring
seamless integration between hardware, firmware, and backend payment platforms.
• Lead large-scale deployment and lifecycle management of field devices across
merchant networks, ensuring uptime, reliability, and real-time transaction processing.
• Build and scale IoT device management platforms, including remote provisioning, device
authentication & security, OTA firmware/software updates, and real-time monitoring and
diagnostics.
• Optimize low-latency, high-reliability communication between devices and backend
systems (MQTT, HTTPs, WebSockets, etc.).
• Ensure device performance in low-network / offline environments, including store-and-
forward transaction capabilities.
• Work closely with product and business teams to design merchant-centric device
experiences (audio confirmations, instant alerts, reconciliation flows).
• Drive certification and compliance for payment devices (PCI, EMV, RBI guidelines where
applicable).
• Collaborate with OEMs and vendors for hardware selection, customization, and large-
scale rollouts.
2. Embedded Systems & Firmware Development
• Drive engineering for embedded systems, Linux/RTOS-based platforms, and device-
level software.
• Oversee firmware development, OTA updates, device lifecycle management, and
version control.
• Ensure robust hardware-software integration and optimize device performance in real-
world environments.
3. Merchant Ecosystem & Integrations
• Build scalable merchant onboarding, KYC, and lifecycle systems.
• Enable integrations with payment partners (banks, networks), gateways and
aggregators, and internal fintech products.
• Support multi-channel merchant acceptance (POS, QR, app, APIs) — with devices as
one channel, not the core.
4. Device & IoT Integration (Supporting Role)
• Oversee integration of POS / Soundbox / QR devices with backend payment systems.
• Ensure seamless transaction sync, status updates, and reconciliation from devices to
core systems.
• Collaborate with device teams for reliability and merchant experience, without owning
core firmware development.
5. Engineering Leadership
• Build and scale high-performing teams across backend, platform, and payments
engineering.
• Define engineering roadmap aligned with merchant growth and revenue goals.
• Establish best practices for scalability, observability, and system reliability.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration
• Partner with Product, Business, Finance, Risk, and Operations teams.
• Drive data-driven decision-making using transaction, settlement, and merchant metrics.
Requirements
• 18–25 years of engineering experience, with significant exposure to device/embedded
systems and/or payments/fintech platforms.
• Proven leadership experience managing large engineering teams (20+ members).
• Strong expertise in embedded systems (Linux/RTOS), firmware development (C/C++
preferred), and device connectivity (Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G/5G, IoT protocols).
• Experience working on POS devices, payment hardware, IoT devices, or large-scale
device ecosystems.
• Strong understanding of payment systems, transaction flows, and device security
standards (PCI-DSS).
• Experience in OTA updates, remote device management, and device monitoring
systems.
• Exposure to OEM/vendor management and hardware lifecycle management is highly
preferred.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to work in a fast-paced fintech
environment.
Good to Have
• Experience in fintech / payments / merchant acquiring ecosystem.
• Exposure to Android-based POS systems.
• Understanding of RBI/device certification requirements.
• Exposure to POS / Soundbox / device integrations.
• Understanding of ledgering and accounting systems.
