Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, founded in 2005 under the Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust, is a leading non-profit organization committed to eliminating blindness and empowering women in underserved regions of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Operating 46 vision centers and 5 surgical facilities, including the worlds first rural “Centre of Excellence” in eye care, it provides over 180,000 sight-restoring surgeries annually, The institutions mission is built on the pillars of Sight Restoration, Empowerment of Rural Girls, and Service to Marginalized Geographies. By 2030, Akhand Jyoti aims to significantly scale its impact by restoring vision to 2 million people, screening 12 million, and training 1,500 rural girls to thrive in the eye care sector.
Role Description
Consultant Ophthalmologist will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, performing comprehensive eye exams, diagnosing and treating various eye conditions, and conducting surgeries, particularly cataract surgeries. The role includes mentoring medical and surgical staff, supervising clinical operations, and ensuring adherence to protocols. The Consultant Ophthalmologist will play a key role in furthering the hospitals mission of quality and accessible eye care in underserved areas. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Mastichak, Saran, Purnea, Dalsingsarai, (Bihar), Ballia (UP).
Qualifications
- Expertise in diagnosing and treating a variety of eye diseases, with proficiency in cataract surgery and other ophthalmic procedures.
- Strong skills in patient management, clinical consultations, and visual assessments.
- Experience mentoring medical teams, providing training, and collaborating on clinical practices and initiatives.
- Commitment to serving underserved communities and contributing to the hospitals mission of sight restoration and empowerment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in dynamic, resource-limited settings and exhibit cultural sensitivity.
- Educational Requirement: MBBS with MS/MD/DNB in Ophthalmology or equivalent qualification. Fellowship in cataract or other sub-specialties is an advantage.
- Prior work experience in high-volume or non-profit eye care setups is preferred.
