Position: Senior Hardware Engineer
Reports to: Senior Manager R&D
Type: Permanent full time, 45 hours/wk, 9:30AM 7:00PM, Monday-Friday
Responsibilities:
Design ownership of assigned hardware products and assemblies.
Design and implement electronic modules and enclosures, both new and modifications to existing designs.
Analyze new hardware feature/product requirements, perform high level and detailed design, create the required design documentation, and lead/coordinate reviews by stakeholders.
Implement or lead design implementation by internal resources or external contractors. o Design for reliability, manufacturability, maintainability, and cost.
Ensure all required documentation is created to support the realization of prototype and production builds.
Coordinate prototype builds.
Perform/lead design verification testing. Ensure plans and results are documented.
Perform/lead the creation and management of assembly guides and work instructions for unit assembly.
Work with the production department to define and create the infrastructure and processes required to manufacture the new products.
Train or coordinate the training of production staff in the assembly and test of new products.
Ensure product compliance to required industry standards (E.g. IEC 60255-26 EMC, IEC 60255-27 Safety, ROHS, etc.).
Perform/lead component substitution investigations as required by End-Of-Life (EOL) or leadtime issues.
Direct/guide product change management and handoff to production.
Troubleshooting of hardware related development, production, and field issues that need enhanced support.
Work closely with production, hardware, firmware, software, and verification team members to bring products and features to market.
Ensure that issues found during verification/validation/production testing, or by customers, are resolved quickly and efficiently.
Provide task estimates and status updates as required.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior developers.
Provide technical support to customer service staff and end users as required for escalated issues.

Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, or related degree or diploma.
Strong understanding of electronic circuits used in power supplies, processor-based systems, communications interfaces, amplifiers, analog filters, ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, etc
Good understanding of thermal management.
Good understanding enclosure design and electronics packaging concepts.
Familiarity with Electrical power systems is a strong asset.
Familiarity and experience with FPGA development is a strong asset. VHDL preferred.
Familiarity with embedded firmware is an asset.

Experience: 10+ years of relevant hardware development with experience in:
o Analog and digital circuit architecture, design, implementation, and troubleshooting. o High speed digital and analog PCB design and layout
o High performance microprocessors with associated infrastructure (memory, communications, etc.)
o Analog and digital interfaces with EMC/EMI compliance in harsh electrical environments. o Prototyping and formal design verification o Version and release management
Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts is a strong asset.
